Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

I was pulled over about a month ago and was searched illegally by the police and they found a small amount of marijuana in my car. the let me go with out any tickets or citations. I am just getting back in town from a vacation and found a note on my door stating that the office of the sheriff was at my address concerning a criminal summons and for me to call them. there is also a message stating: (Failure to contact this office may result in your immediate arrest at my home or workplace). I went online to check and see if i had any active cases and i found out that i have a pending charge for marijuana, and have to be in court in a few weeks. Should i call even though i know whats going on. Can i be sent a citation for something days/weeks afterwards?

Chances are the sheriff is trying to serve you with a court summons and charge papers. If you go in to be served, do not answer questions. I offer a free initial consultation.
