Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

I just received a summons to court that...I'm "assuming" as a witness for the state against an individual. The problem is...I didn't actually see any crime being committed. I came after the fact in reporting my license plates being stolen and within an hour or so, the police had retrieved them. So what ...exactly...does the State's Attorney need me for?? All I know is...the license plates were missing...they were retrieved. Other than that, I don't know who did what, when??

The State's Attorney is the best person to answer your question. My guess is that you are a necessary witness to prove who was supposed to have the plates. Perhaps the State might agree to have you sign an affidavit with a certified copy of your registration attached. Of course, then the accused would know your address.
