Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland
I know someone that recently got stopped at an airport security checkpoint, with an unregistered unloaded handgun and was arrested and released on ROR. The person forgot the gun was in their carry on and now is faced with two felony charges. This person does not have any criminal history. What would be the likely outcome?

The state or federal government may prosecute the person and seek a fine and confinement. The court may impose up to the maximum that the law provides, regardless of whether the accused has a criminal record. Exactly what penalty depends on the personality of the prosecutor and the judge. Even without confinement, the accused might lose the right to bear arms ever again.
