I don't believe there is a statute of limitations for your mother to notify your step-father's employer. Any criminal action, if pursued, will be by the employer. She may wish for the employer to remove the stolen goods prior to sale. Its arguable that she is already an accomplice so getting the goods out of the house along with her fessing up is within her best interest. Leaving stolen goods in the house may also make her title on the home unmarketable. The new owners won't like the idea of buying a home within which there is property that really is not theirs. If mama doesn't have title insurance, she is liable to the new homeowners.
