Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

I wrote a bad check in May for over $500. I didn't know it was going to be returned at the time...I had an automatic payment that went through causing this to be the case. I panicked and didn't return the call to the owner of the Auto repair shop when they called. I was summoned to court and have to appear tomoorrow. I know it is short notice. I have since paid the money to the auto shop and have the receipt.

I am worried because the cop who served me made it seem like if I was paid the money then there was no need for an attorney. I have no idea how to plead if I need to plead or what to do. I have no criminal record. And i feel horrible for doing this.

I hope that since you asked this question, you haven't plead guilty, especially if this case is in Charles Co. If you did, you may have just gotten out of jail. If not, please call me ASAP so we can look into whether or not the State can prove this case.

Proof of payment may be either an confession of guilt or a defense depending on the timing and other evidence. While wrong and dirty the cops advice may not help your defense to the charge. I offer a free initial consultation
