Don't wait for a decision by child protective services to be made. Talk to a lawyer now, even before you talk to child protective services.

Since potential criminal charges are involved, you would be well advised to at least consult with an attorney to become aware of your rights. CPS will probably want to interview you, which brings self-incrimination (5th amendment) issues into the picture. An attorney can be a valuable asset in these situations.
