Your question is extremely vague and thus hard to answer. If you are referring to a retainer agreement for legal services, there should be a written agreement between you and the attorney. It should spell out how much you will pay--whether on an hourly basis or as a flat fee, and when the payments are due. It would also indicate whether you are required to pay an initial retainer and periodic supplemental retainers if appropriate. If you don't have such an agreement in place, you should immediately ask the attorney to provide you one so there are no misunderstandings down the road which could adversely affect your relationship when you might be in the middle of litigation or whatever the project entails.
