Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

For a custody hearing coming up and the mother wants to have witness to aprear, What could she want witness for that we have never met and what questions will a judge ask the witness?

The witness presumably is familiar with her living situation and perhaps can speak about her observations of the relationship between mother and child. The judge will be trying to determine which one of you is best able to care for the child and his/her questions will be geared toward that.
