Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

my daughter has a 5 yr old daughter, no stable place to live,(she is staying with neighbors pending the outcome of a criminal case), when they leave the house - she has to leave until they return. She is roaming the streets with my grandaughtr until late at night 9 - 10 pm. on school nights. She receives state assistance (cash/food stamps) and does not spend the money on her daughter. I would like to file for custody. However, if I ma not granted custody, she will not let me see my grandaughter again. Please advise. Thank you.

You may wish to consult with an attorney as soon as possible to seek some advice on protecting your grandchild and/or seeking custody.

If finances prevent you from hiring an attorney, you may want to visit a family law PRO SE (self help) clinic at the Circuit Court of whatever county you live in. Family law attorneys volunteer their time to help folks who cannot afford an attorney fill out paperwork for custody and so forth.

While the above is not legal advice, I hope that it helps.
