Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Where do I have to file for divorce? In the state in which I live or the state in which I got married? Is there a length of time that I need to be separated from my husband in order to file?

You file the divorce in the state where you reside or where your husband's reside, assuming you have lived in the state for a least six month. There are several grounds for an absolute divorce. However, in the meantime, you may consider filing a limited divorce (a separation).

Actually, if you want to file in MD, one of you must have lived here for a year. If you have been voluntarily separated (that is, by agreement) for a year, you can file on that basis. If you've been separated for 2 years, it doesn't have to be voluntary to get the divorce.
