Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I have a friend that has been supenoa by my wife to appear as her witness in a divorce court. Is there any way she can avoid appearing due to obligation of work and because they wants nothing to do with our divorce proceeding, and can lend nothing to the outcome.?

It's irrelevant if your friend does not want to be involved. She has to show the subpoena to her employer to get off for the matter. If she believes she has a legitimate excuse, contact an attorney to see if she has a valid objection to the subpoena. Otherwise, unless notified, she has to appear or she may be found in contempt. At the same time, a check for a witness fee and travel should have been included in the subpoena. Your friend should contact the attorney to discuss the testimony and any statutory fees she is entitled to receive. The attorney may decide her testimony is not needed.
