Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

My friend's mother died when he was a minor and left him $20,000 with his father to handle it until he turned was of age. He lived at home and his father took care of him until he turned 21. Now he has moved out and would like his money, but his father refuses to give him any of it. How can he gain access to his money and how much of it is he entitled, since he did live at home for 3 years?

Nobody can predict what the courts will do. However, if the father and son didn't have an agreement beforehand about room and board, he cannot create one now.

If the father refuses to give him the money, he will have to sue the father.
