Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

legal custody

If I have sole physical and legal custody of my 3 small children and their dad has visitation is he allowed to plan a religious ceromony with out my knowledge and permission. The woman he is marrying used to be my friend and my children used to call her ''aunt'' and this whole thing is going to be very confusing to them. He yells at me and cusses anytime I try to talk to him so I am unsure as to what to do. I need to know because the wedding is coming soon and I don't want to send my children. If he were to inform me, it would be a little different cause I would have time to prepare my children. Anyway please help cause I just want what is best and I don't want him to walk all over me and disrespect me. Thank you in advance for your time.

Re: legal custody

It sounds like you are really asking if your legal custodianship gives you the right to refuse to allow your children to attend his wedding. I think that as their father he has the right to have them attend such an important event in his life. Certainly he should be more communicative with you about this, so you can explain the situation to the children. You might want to ask him for details about the event so you can determine if it is appropriate for the children to attend, emphasizing that you are not trying to come between him and the children. If he stonewalls you, then tell him you will have to withhold permission until he provides you with the details.
