Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
i have a separation agreem done with a mediator from 3 years ago. my financial situation changed-i used to earn as much as my husband, so the monthly stipend was pretty minimal. now, i'm unemployed & think i should get more money, so I'm not eating into my principle. the mediator will only work with me if the husband agrees, which he does not. What would i need to do to get more money monthly while unemployed?

Depending on the language in your agreement, you may or may not be able to file a court petition. If the agreement prohibits a court from modifying it and says it can only be modified by consent of the parties, you are stuck with what you are getting. If such language is absent, you could file for divorce and ask for alimony. In doing so you would claim a significant change in circumstances from when the agreement was signed. Your husband would claim you are not making enough of an effort to find new employment, and therefore he shouldn't be responsible for your situation.
