Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
I have sole Legal and Physical custody of my 8 year old son. My ex husband has visitation every other weekend. But he calls me all the time. demanding to know things. He told me he could take me back to court for not talking to him before moving Brian to a chirstian school. He tells me if I don't give him medical records I could go to jail.
I thought having legal custody ment I'm not required to inform him of everything. He is also giving the school a hard time because they do not provide him with all the information he requests.
Thank you
Mary

If the court gave you sole legal custody without an obligation to provide him with school and medical records, you are relieved from that responsibility.
Although federal law obligates public schools to provide school records to noncustodial parents unless specifically banned by court order, private and prochial schools aren't under this federal law, but might be under a reporting requirement under state law. I'm quite sure your son's school has lawyers and knows its obligations under state and federal law.
Similarly, because you are sole legal custodian, your ex husband has no input into where your son goes to school.
In addition, the physician may be obligated under Maryland law to provide medical information to the father. However, again, let the physician and his attorney worry about compliance with state law.
