Under the law, they are the same as the mother's. However, as a practical matter, a judge is unlikely to separate a newborn from his/her mother. But beyond the custody issue, you are entitled to periodic visitation with your child. You are also required to support your child, and the amount of such support will be determined under the MD child support guidelines, which is based upon the respective incomes of the parents.
