Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland
4 years ago, I was sued for 600 something dollars. I recently checked the case online, which I didn't know I could do, and it is still marked "open" even though I paid him and gave his lawyer and him the check. I have the check and proof of payment. His dad, the lawyer, stated that he was going to ruin my credit, which he did by keeping the case open over the past 4 years. I was denied jobs, credit, and living space due to this. I don't have proof that I was denied living space or jobs, I didn't think I would need it at the time. As for my credit, i don't know what I would need to prove that. Do I have a case?

This should have been resolved years ago. First, write a letter to the attorney demanding that he close the case immediately and mark it as satisfied. Otherwise, you will hire a lawyer and demand attorney's fees and costs for his failure to act ethically. Send the letter certified mail/return receipt.
If he fails to comply with this demand, you may have to hire a lawyer.
