Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Civil Case

I withheld final payment of $4,000 to a window company because it took three months to install the windows and I had to make numerous trips to the house and take off work. We went to court and they settled, with me paying $2,000 of the $4,000. This has been over a year ago. Now I have to appear for a ''Merit Trial''. Can you tell me what that means?

Re: Civil Case

If you settled the case, the plaintiff's attorney (or the plaintiff himself if there was no attorney) should have filed a notice to the court that the case was settled. So there would never have been a trial scheduled. You need to contact the plaintiff or their attorney and make sure they have the case properly dismissed. This assumes that you complied fully with the terms of the settlement.
