Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Contracted for Work to be perform, but not performed

Hi All,

I paid a person in advance for work to be performed and have a contract and a receipt for payment.

Person now refuses to do the work and finish other work he was doing.

I would like to take the person to court to recover the money due me, for he refuses to do the work.

How do I find a attorney to help me? Small Claims Court recommends an attorney to help sue and recover money owe.

Thanks in advance!

Four factors will determine your course of action: (1) Do you, like many people have the patience and perseverance to research file and try your own small claims case?; (2) Is the claim large enough to hire an attorney? For example, if you have a claim for $2000 and you'll need to hire an attorney for 10 hours at $200 an hour, you'll end up even at best, and (3)What is the liklihood that you'll succeed if you bring a claim?; (4) What is the liklihood that you'll be able to collect money from this person if you prevail in a suit? Some research will reveal if he owns real estate at least or if he's filed for bankruptcy.
