Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Fraudulent use of home address

Recently, my husband's ex-wife has started using our home address without permission and her bank statement, children's insurance information, and lawyer bills have started coming here. My husband and I live in MD and she lives in PA with their 2 teenagers. We have called her to ask why her mail was coming here and she acted surprised and upset. She also accused my husband of changing her address information. We have just simply been giving the children her mail and not sending it back through the mail with a ''does not live at this address'' written on it. I am worried that she has applied for credit and/or loans and is fradulently using our address for her own purposes. Is there anything we should do to get this stopped? If so, what legal recourse or other avenue should we take?

Re: Fraudulent use of home address

The safest option is to ask the postmaster at your local post office what to do. (You can go to your local post office. Even better go on line to www.usps.com and e-mail the question. That way you have a record of the response just in case.)

The postmaster MAY say to simply put "does not live at this address" and return it to the post office. It will then get returned to the sender. Also, to further protect yourself send a letter priority/mail delivery confirmation to her correct address informing her that she has 30 days to inform all senders that your address is not hers and to put a change of address at the post office. You may be able to help her along by enclosing a blank change of address form, which is available at all post office.
