Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland
Friend had drug paraphanelia and alcohol in car
My friend had an empty plastic baggy that used to have marijuana in it and also had a glass pipe in my car. I also had a 21 year old in the car who had an unopened alcohol bottle(intended for her use only). I got pulled over and the police eventually gained permission to search my car by calling my mother. After finding the pipe and baggy, my friend admitted that it was all hers. They also made everyones parents come to get them, and made the girl pour out her bottle of alcohol. I did not get in any legal trouble, but the police officer told me that everytime someone pulls up my tag number and name, it will say i have transported narcotics in my car. They also said something about being able to pull me over anytime because of this, and search my car if need be. Is this true?

Re: Friend had drug paraphanelia and alcohol in car
I think the officer was just trying to scare you. Police officers must have probable cause to believe a vehicle operator is violating the law, or that there is an outstanding warrant for the vehicle, before they can stop the vehicle. Also, they had no right to make your adult friend dispose of the bottle of alcohol.
