Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

My husband's ex-girlfriend contacted him

My husband and I were told by the police to file an order of protection but we do not feel comfortable filing it. Is it possible for authorities to send a 'warning' letter to this ex-girlfriend to stay away from us? We feel the order of protection is a bit too harsh. Await your reply and other suggestions. Thanks.

Where needed a protection order is the better course of action. This will involve the court and further notice to the person causing problem. If circumstances justify a criminal complaint may be issued. Your contact of the police has already placed the person on warning. Consider your safety as being most important.
