Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

possession of alcohol as a minor

My son is 18 was went to a concert. He was with a friend, they walked over to another friends car and got in the back seat in the parking lot. The 2 kids that were 21 had open alcohol, the police tapped on the window, saw the alcohol, took IDs and wrote my son and the other a citation. He was not drinking nor did he have personal possession. No citations were written to the 21 year olds who were drinking. He now has a court date. I told him he needs to tell exactly what happened. Is there anything else I should do?

Yes, hire an experienced criminal attorney to help your son get through this so he doesn't risk a conviction on his weapon. If he is income eligible, he could be represented by the public defender in your county. If he appears without an attorney, the judge will give him the opportunity to get one and he could be interviewed by the public defender that day at the courthouse.
