Legal Question in Immigration Law in Maryland

F1 Sponsorship

I am a student on a F1 visa and because of some financial difficulties, my sponsor (who is a US citizen) wont be able to support my studies any longer. How can I do to change sponsors without falling out of status and is this possible?

Re: F1 Sponsorship

Dear Inquirer:

As long as you continue to attend school under the terms and conditions stated on your I-20, you are maintaining status. If you need a new sponsor right away to meet your tuition obligations etc. you may wish to obtain a new I-20 once you have a new sponsor.

I recommend that you email [email protected] or visit www.hanlonlawgroup.com if you would like to schedule an appointment for a confidential consultation to discuss this matter further.

Re: F1 Sponsorship

First of all, contact your university representative about this problem. Since the university issues the I-20 via USCIS,it would be responsible for ascertaining that your funds are sufficient via the agency. Check with your representative. Whatever you do, do not wait until you can no longer go to classes. Check now. Follow that office's advice. If you have difficulty, email me again. Good luck!
