Legal Question in Immigration Law in Maryland

respected sir/mam,

I am a greencard holder and it will take still 2 more years to get US citizenship.I have girlfriend studying here(in USA) on F-1 visa.We are going to marry in 2-3 months,so if I apply for her after marriage so will her status be changed from F-1 visa to any other before I get citizenship?please let me know the required procedure.

You can marry her, however, her status will NOT change from F1 to a permanent resident after the marriage. She will need to maintan her non-immigrant F1 status in order to remain in USA legally.

You can even petition for her after the marriage, but the petition will have to wait at least 4-5 years until its priority date is current, and only then she will be able to apply for residency.

When you become a USA citizen, if your wife is still in USA, she might be able to apply for adjustment of status (green card).
