Legal Question in Insurance Law in Maryland
Does insurance co. get car title
My car may be totaled from an accident. If so, am I obligated to sign over the title to the insurance co. Someone I know did , kept the car, but got a ''salvage title'' when they bought the car back. I just want the money and keep my original title. Hows the law in Md view this ?
Thanks

Re: Does insurance co. get car title
If the ins co pays you for the value of the car, then they get the title. If you want to keep the car for some reason, you can probably negotiate to deduct the salvage value from their settlement amount and keep the title, but I wouldn't even hint at that until you've already negotiated the highest possible settleent value for your car.
