Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland

My daughter is renting an apartment just off the campus of her university. The previous tenant (a sorority sister) left a bed in the apartment, which she wanted to sell to my daughter for $250. We declined to buy it and the owner said she would move it out. A year later, she has not done so and the bed is still in the apartment - my daughter ended up using it, as she was going to move her bed in when the other one was moved out. Who's property is the bed? We would like to keep the bed and I was thinking of offering the "owner" some money ($100) for it. What is the right legal stance to take?

With thanks!

You can send a letter, certified mail, return receipt informing her that she does not remove the bed within 30 days from receipt of the letter, you will consider it abandoned. This will save you $100. If she calls you to see if you still want to buy it, tell her you're buy it for $100.
