Osteomyelitis and diabetes

I am diabetic and had 3 foot surgeries since 4/06. First one for a bunion and a couple other minor things.That surgery was only partly successful and I developed a bad infection. We got that infection under control.Then a revision surgery in Nov. to fix what didn't get fixed the first time. The surgery was an osteotomy to cut the bone in half and then fix it with screws When he took the stitches out, the wound was nasty looking, certainly not healed. A few days afterward he put me in a snug fiberglas cast which covered the unhealed wound. He did not monitor the cast and left it on for 7 weeks. When he took the cast off, the wound was horrific looking.He spent about 3 minutes with me, then kind of got distracted and left without even telling me when to return.The assistant guessed at 4 weeks and said she'd call if it was different.So I returned in 4 weeks and the surgeon said I was deeply infected and needed emergency surgery to remove the hardware. They diagnosed a staph and strep infection that ended up as osteomyelitis, requiring a PICC line, IV antibiotics and many followups.I am emotionally distraught.I feel my diabetic status was very neglected by this Dr. and I was physically and emotionally damaged. Can I sue?
