Legal Question in Personal Injury in Maryland

As a client awaiting a monetary settlement from an insurance company, do I have a right to view the entire settlement breakdown ex. doctor's fees, attorney fees etc?

Also, does the attorney have a right to withold my compensation for two weeks in order for the insurance check to clear the bank?

1.) Yes, you have the right to view the entire settlement breakdown, EVERY SINGLE LINE ITEM.

2.) Yes, the attorney likely has the right to accept the settlement check on your behalf, run it through his trust account, pay himself the fees/expenses he's owed and then pay you the difference. A couple weeks sounds a little long for a check to clear, but since I'm not familiar with the particulars of your circumstances it's hard for me to comment with any specificity. Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create a an attorney-client relationship.******

You have an attorney. It is strange that you don't ask these questions to the attorney you hired. Schedule an appointment with the attorney you hired and discussed this with him or her. If you are not satisfied with his representations you can either hire another one or file a complaint with the www.courts.state.md.us/attygrievance/complaint.html - regarding his representations.
