Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Fleas in my apartment

I moved into my place in January 13th and signed a one-year lease. I don't have any pets but noticed fleas on June 19th. I woke up that morning with my legs covered with bite marks. They were all throughout my apartment. The apartment has been professionally sprayed and I have bombed it myself 4 times. It is now July 19th and the fleas are still there. What are my rights? Can I break my lease and move out?

Re: Fleas in my apartment

If the flea bites are causing a health hazard such that the apartment is no longer habitable, you may have an argument for breaking the lease and moving out. Before taking those measures, however, you should see if the landlord will allow you to move into another apartment. If the landlord arranged for the professional spraying of the apartment then it appears that he has taken some positive steps to keeping you as a tenant. See if he will let you move into another apartment first.
