Previous Landlord-Tenant relationship

How far back and what information can a previous landlord give to a possible new landlord seeking to rent to a tenant?

There is no specific rule of thumb about this. If a landlord has information that would be relevant to a prospective new landlord, it's age probably doesn't matter.
