Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland
I'm 17 and have had my provisional license for 15 months. I was picking up my friend from Lake Forest mall, and got lost. I used cell phone GPS system to find my way, and it told me to make a U-turn. I accidentally made an illegal U-Turn and I a cop ticketed me.
I'm wondering is it worth it to take this to court and ask for a PBJ and if I do, how exactly is that done?

The instructions should be on the citation you received. You have nothing to lose by insisting that the state probe it's case.
If this is a Maryland Uniform citation, then all you have to do is not pay the ticket. You will receive a court date in the mail. Do NOT mail the ticket back to the Court, because that would be admitting guilt and scheduling a sentencing hearing, without the requirement of the officer's presence.
And don't plead guilty in Court. Plead not guilty, make the officer prove the case. Cross examine him/her with specific details about the day that he may not remember (weather, light conditions, traffic, etc.) You have a problem, because even a PBJ would violate your provisional license status, make you start your 18 months all over again, and require you to either attend driver improvement or an MVA hearing to attempt to keep your provisional status.
However, if the officer comes to Court and you lose at trial, then you can just tell the judge that you have no priors and request PBJ. Bring a copy of your driving record to Court to be even more professional.
