Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

How do I begin to clean this mess up?

I've been pulled over several times in the last two or three years - two speeding violations, a seatbelt violation, a fine for tossing a cigarette out the window. Through sheer stupidity, I haven't done anything about them - haven't paid the fines, haven't appeared in court, haven't acknowledged them in any way. I've pulled myself together now, and want to clean this mess up - I'd been moving frequently, and don't even know if my license is suspended, if there are warrants out for me, or how I can even begin to find out what I need to do (my insurance premiums haven't been raised, curiously). I understand how irresponsible I've been, and am wondering what the first steps are towards (hopefully) rectifying all this. Can I just pay the fines, with late fees, after all this time?

You can take the first steps yourself without counsel - go to the DMV and get a "court" copy of your driving record. This will indicate whether you have points, unpaid fines, or whether your privileges are suspended (I suggest having a friend drive you there because if you ARE suspended, they may watch to see if you drive away). Then, you can contact an attorney and we can run a criminal record check for bench warrants etc. (you don't want to try this yourself as they may grab you on the spot). We can handle this for you and try to negotiate a nolle prosequi or stet on any outstanding charges. We can explain more during an initial consultation. The first thing you should do is consult with a lawyer. More than likely there is a bench warrant out for your arrest for failure to appear on your traffic citations. A criminal lawyer, like myself, can pettiton the court to have this warrant lifted, have the cases set for trial, and help you resolve these matters. Don't wait to be stopped by the police, they will lock you up.

I suggest you contact an attorney.

Unbeknownst to you there may be a warrant for arrest for failure to appear.

I am available to discuss and my phone number is listed on the LawGuru website.
