It does not hurt to try reporting it to the police. Bring print outs of the facebook and twitter posts and texts she has sent. While merely saying rude things about someone may not rise to the level of a crime, the threat to hurt you is a crime. The police will want to see proof of the alleged threats, but sometime your word alone is enough, especially of you can show her entire pattern of conduct using her facebook, twitter and text messages. Witnesses who saw her threaten you are also helpful.

If the police decide to file an application for a criminal complaint, that will start the process on prosecuting her criminally. Even of the police opt not to do anything, you can go down to your local district court and file a private party complaint against this person (it will cost you $15). One word of caution: if you engaged in any criminal conduct yourself, i.e. threatening her, this may come to light after you report the other person, so before you do anything, consider any criminal exposure you may face.
