Legal Question in Business Law in Massachusetts

business ethics

I work in the food industry at a Subway. I'm the manager. I have a few complaints about my owner's policies and I need advice on whether or not I would have a valid case were they to continue to push the laws.

The owner of said Subway holds mandatory manager's meetings every Friday. Not one of us is compensated for gas, tolls(there's 2), or time spent at these meetings. I'm an hourly manager, unlike two of my fellow managers. If these meetings are mandatory, aren't we to be compensated?

I have protested this policy and recently been met with being told that if I do not attend these meetings, my job is in jeopardy.

Also, shortages are deducted from my paycheck. As are any paid outs, even though one of my employees was doing them without permission. That has been stopped.

I signed nothing agreeing to any of those terms.

Thanks in advance

Re: business ethics

you raise a number of issues.

Mandatory meetings are ok. Unless there is a policy, you are not entitled to be compensated for travel expenses. As an hourly employee you must be compensated for the time.

As for shortages, I am almost positive, that having the shortages deducted is not proper.
