Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Massachusetts

collection notice/ S.O.L

I received a collection notice on a credit card that is well over the statue of limitations. It is no longer on my credit report, nor has it been in many years. However, a new collection agency has acquired this old debt and is sending notices and phonecalls. My question is, if I decide to pay this old debt to put a stop to the phonecalls and letters, which to my understanding they can do for the next 20 years, will that info. then be provided to the credit bureaus and can it then hurt my credit since it currently does not exist on my report?

Re: collection notice/ S.O.L

You should contact an attorney as soon as possible, and before sending a payment to the collection agency.

If the statute of limitations has run on collection of this debt, it is possible that the collection agency is violating the law.

My office has been succesful in stopping creditor harassment, including all notices and phone calls. Please feel free to give me a call to set up an office consultation.
