Judgement Against Me
I have a high credit card balance owed. I tried over and over to make affordable monthly arrangements with the collection agency but the declined every time. I went as far to write to the manager and president/owner of the collection agency and wrote to the VP of the credit card company (chose them because I got a letter from this person). Sent everything certified mail too. I have kept all records of all of this documents and letters sent.
I received a court date and was planning on appearing. In the meantime, I received a interrogatory questionnaire to answer. I did NOT answer this because I felt uncomfortable doing so and it was written by the lawyer representing the credit card company.
I received notification that my court date was cancelled and a judgement was placed against me on 9/5/2008. After having my cop friend speak to his lawyer friend, this is absolutely wrong to do. I will be filing papers in court tomorrow to be heard.
In addition, this also happened to me with another credit card last March. The lawyer friend said I got screwed twice. He was very helpful and has pointed me in the right direction. I cannot afford a lawyer. Do I get a lawyer or do it myself? Help!!!!

You should go into court immediately and request that the judge remove the default judgment. You may be facing more than one law suit here, so make sure you check the docket numbers on the pleadings to make sure they match.
Assuming that you can get the default judgment removed, you need to take some action on this. Your lawyer friend has not helped you one bit by telling you that you got screwed - you need actual legal representation or you will be walked all over and taken advantage of by opposing counsel.
Your options will be to either pay an attorney to clear this up for you, or pay much much more to the creditor, who will seek to garnish your wages or take property. Do not ignore this situation any longer.

It is possible that this collection effort by your creditor violated the law and possibly court procedure. You should have a knowlegeable attorney assist you immediately.
