Legal Question in Technology Law in Massachusetts

court ordered subpoena for records

recently my domain was hijacked and taken control of by another user (they transferred the domain from my GODaddy account to their own GoDaddy account).

To make a long story short, I am looking to go after this person legally (they are located in India).

Obviously, GoDaddy cannot publicly provide me with the persons details. How can i get a court ordered subpoena to provide me with ALL details of the other person so that I may take action?

You can file a complain before the authority - best chance for you is to contact the lawyer who handles Internet related laws in your area.

Depends upon how much you really want to spend chasing this matter -- we would assume that the people at GoDaddy have already restored your domain to you administratively. In order to get a third-party subpoena to compel GoDaddy to divulge the name of the hacker, you would commence an action against the unnamed "John Doe" in your jurisdiction. Likely the folks at GoDaddy would not contest the subpoena (as service providers are usually just as interested in bringing hackers to justice, but their policies require a subpoena in order to protect the privacy of their users) and would then provide the name, whereupon you would amend the complaint to include the name of the hacker....

Just to get that far could run several thousand dollars, so be sure that it is what you really want to do with your money.

Best wishes,
