Legal Question in Construction Law in Massachusetts

1 year ago I had a contractor build some stone walls and a walkway. 3 months ago he sent me a non-itemized bill for $5000 and has been calling me every few weeks asking for the money. I do not believe that I owe him any money.

How can I get him to stop calling me?

If you did not pay him for the work that he performed then it would seem that you owe him fees for services. Even if your agreement was a verbal one, it is still a valid promise to pay and contract. The fact that the bill is not itemized does not invalidate the contract. Ask for an itemized bill and then you will have a point from which to negotiate.

You may have a claim for unfair and deceptive acts against the contractor depending on the conduct used in its attempt to collect the debt. You failed to state if you had a written contract?
