Legal Question in Consumer Law in Massachusetts
Misdiagnostic Auto Repair...
About 4-5 weeks ago my gf's car broke down on the side of the highway spilling oil. The car however was did start and we drove it just down the road to a mechanic. We left it there and it diagnosed and ''repaired'', but when they started it up again they said the same thing happened again and that the car should be scraped. We proceeded to pay him for the repair and buy a new car. Meanwhile my gf's father paid to install a tow on his truck and took it to a place closer to his home. HE took it to a mechanic that he know and he said this other guy did the wrong, took out things that should not have been removed, etc. And that he could fix the entire problem for 700. What kind of liability is the original mechanic held to? It seems his negligence and inexpert opinion led to cost us time, stress, and money. We were without a car (missed work), had to pay for faulty repairs, paid for tow, AND had to buy and all new car; all the while having to pay insurance and payments.....also how can I go about correcting this if I cant afford a lawyer? In the end it might now be worth going after....but how is that then fair? I'm now broke and the new car needs breaks.....HELP!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Re: Misdiagnostic Auto Repair...
You can and should file a consumer protection letter, seeking either settlement or set the mechanic for triple damages and attorney's fees.
