Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

So, I graduated high school in june 2008 and was going to wait to start college until the following year in september 2009 so i could work more hours to be able to move out into my own apartment to get out of my bad living situation with my mom. (my mother and father were never married and split up when i was two years old) Both of my parents are alcoholics and I just wanted my own private space so I wouldn't have to deal with the day to day drama anymore. My father however, did not want me to wait and said he would pay to start school at a community college, but I said I wanted to go but just would rather wait to get everything situated first. he made me feel guilty until I told him I would, so i went the first semester and paid for my own books and passed my grades. Then the 2nd semester came around but I told him I seriously was not ready to go back that I really needed to work more than be a full time student right now. Again he made me feel guilty enough that I ended up going but this time I could not afford this semesters books so I wasn't able to do the work and he would not pay for them. I also did not have any transportation to get to school only the city bus and I had a bad experience with it that made me not want to take it anymore. So, therefore I stopped going and started to work more and lucked out by finding somewhere to move into temporarily for cheap with someone until i could afford more, because by that point I was completely miserable. So, I started moving out and my dad had found out that I was not going to school anymore and was furious with me showed up at my mother's house(drove over there drunk) walked right in the door without knocking followed me up the stairs and ended up cornering me in my room as i was packing and could not leave the room. He started throwing boxes and other things at me across the room and i finally got out. i went into the dining room and he kept trying to grab me and ended up grabbing be from behind on my arms and i kept getting loose and he was chasing me around the table. As i tried to run by him, he grabbed me by my throat and tried to push me against the wall and I got so scared because my dad has never touched me before in my life so I started to have a panic attack and I hit him in reaction to him grabbing me. He kept persisting to grab my arms and kept screaming at me and embarrassed me in front of my friends by acting the way he did. One of my friends tried to step in and help me but he kept screaming at him and kept threatening him he was going to beat him up and kill him and other things. my friend just didnt want to mess with a drunk he just tried to make him calm down and eventually it worked but anyway, more to the story but the point is he never made a payment or told me they needed me to go to the college to withdraw myself and therefore i was charged for the whole semester and just found out about it three months ago when the college's lawyers called me about it. I told them that it was my dadf in charge of payments and i had no idea about it and he had nnot talked to me since january 2009 because I have just had a baby in december and he was not happy i was pregnant at all. so i gave them his number and he wont pick up and my state taxes were taken from me towards this payment and i still owe like 1500 something dollars on it what can i do? I dont have any means to pay this right now I have a lot on my plate with the baby and bills and i just feel even though its in my nname i shouldnt have to pay it since hes the one who was supposed to pay in the first place help me please
