Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

Statute of Limitations for medical service

In 2002, I was hospitalized. There was a dissagrement between the insurance companies as to who would pay for what. In 2004, I looked at my credit report and it stated the ''Dispute resolved reported by grantor''. After hearing nothing from them until Oct 07, a collection agency called me and said I still owe the debt. Has the statute of limitations passed?

Re: Statute of Limitations for medical service

If you are in Massachusetts, the statute of limitations (six years) on collecting that debt has not run.

Depending upon the amount of the debt, you may want to contact an attorney. This could be an attempt to collect an already-satisfied debt.

Depends on what jurisdiction you are asking about. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where I am licensed to practice, the statute of limitations on a contract debt is 6 years from the date of breach.
