Legal Question in DUI Law in Massachusetts
MA liscense suspended for 18 year old out-of-state DUI
I was convicted of DUI in NH in 1986. I paid my fine, but did not
attend alcohol education classes. I was told my liscense in NH
would be suspended if I didn't, but I was in college at the time and
didn't have the m. I've renewed my liscense 4 times in MA and
never had a problem since. I recently tried to
renew my liscense in MA and they told me I had a suspended
liscense in NH, and as of 7/17/04 my MA liscense would be
suspended as well. I enrolled in alcohol education classes (last
weekend of July) and have done all I can to rectify my NH
suspension, but it seems unlikely that I can get it resolved before
my MA suspension takes effect. I'm the primary income source and
I have a disabled child which requires my wife to be home so my
question is: is there anyway possible to get at least an extension
from MA RMV? Everyone I spoke to at the MA RMV said nothing
can be done until I resolve the NH suspension. I've done
everything necessary to resolve this expeditously, but not being
able to get to my job could have devastating consequences. Any
advice would be most welcome. Thank you.

Re: MA liscense suspended for 18 year old out-of-state DUI
The Registry is a tough agency to go against. There is not sucj thing as an extension. Once your license is suspended in MA, you could possibly go and try and get a hardship license at the registry so that you could get to work. Did they violate your probation in NH due to not doing the classes? IN MA, if you do not do the program they will violate you and you could lose your license for a year as opposed to the 45-90 days in lieu of doing the classes. I hope that this help.
