Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Child support & custody

What is the law ref child support/custody if you're in a r'ship (not married) and have a child together? The father decided to leave when I was 2 mths pregnant & I haven't talked to him, he's never met his now 6 yr old daughter. His name is not on the birth cert. My daugh has asked about him (and I told her she could meet when she's older). He knew this child was his..but would have to take a DNA test to prove she's his. he lives out of state. I'm not sure if he's working, but I'd like to file for child support & get sole custody of my daughter since I've raised her since day one. Can you give me some feedback, advice where to turn. I live in MA.

Re: Child support & custody

Your best course of action is to request the Department of Revenue to establish an order of support and to collect it. They won't charge you for this. You can get the forms for this from any probate court or from the Department of Revenue, Child Support Office.
