Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Child Support: Long overdue

My parents divorced in the late 70's. My father subsequently was told, per the divorce decree, to pay child support until I either turned 18, or graduated from college. I never saw my father, I met him for the first time when I was 13, and the last time I saw him I was 14. No child support was ever provided. My question is, can I go after him for the back child support? I work full time, and cannot afford to pay for college, which is why I didn't go directly after High School. I would like to continue my education! I have completed one college course with an "A" at Northeastern University. Do I have any recourse here? He never paid my mother anything, wouldn't that be money that he owes me? I am 23 years old now, and I would like to put this nagging question behind me. If someone could help me, I would really appreciate it.

Re: Child Support: Long overdue

Did your mother let your dad see you? If not,

she may have told him he didn't have to pay

child support. As for your question: the child support was to help your mother support you. She would be the one who would have to sue him, not you.
