Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

Custodial Custody Rights - Moving a child out of state

I am divorced and have full custodial custody of my two children (ages 13 and 10). My ex-husband and I have joint legal custody of the children. What rights do I have to permanently move my children out of state? Is reason a factor in the ability to do so (new job opportunity vs. second marriage/move)? At what age do the children have a say in this decision?

You need permission of your ex-husband or of a judge to move the children out of state. The reason is certainly a factor. At age 14, the judge can start considering the desires of a child.
