Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

How will child support be affect by remarrige?

I am interested in knowing if I marry someone who is now paying child support if my income or our assets can affect the amount he pays. Should I keep my monies separate, should assets be in my name only? The child's college education is not addressed in the divorce agreement, and I don't want my income to be "tapped" for that purpose, nor my assets.

Re: How will child support be affect by remarrige?

When you marry someone, you undertake the obligation to support them. This means that your income and assets are relevant to your spouses ability to pay child support since a greater portion of their resources can be used to support the child. If you keep your assets separate, you will decrease the probability of it affecting child support. However, you can't get a guarantee that you will not be paying support for your step-child.
