Legal Question in Immigration Law in Massachusetts

Hi, my husband and I would like to adopt a child who is currently 16 (and going on 17 in a month). We have known her for four years, since she first came to the U.S. She came here on a F-1 visa, and is still on a F-1 visa. Her mother and father divorced when she was 1, so does not remember ever seeing her father. Her mother is quite willing to give her up for adoption since she believes the child will lead a better life with us. Is this at all possible?

You might be able to legally adopt her (consult an adoption lawyer). However, this adoption will not give her any rights to US residency or citizenship because she is simply too old for that (over 16).
