If a non-resident of the US gets convincted and will be deported, will they serve their sentence in the US and then get deported or just be deported right away?

Yes, usually, a person serves his criminal sentence first, and then gets deported.

Usually the non-resident would serve their sentence in the U.S. and upon completion be turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation. There are cases where the person could agree to immediate deportation, depending upon the crime, and their status at the time.
