Legal Question in Mediation in Massachusetts
mediation
My husband was hit by a state trooper while on a crosswalk in idaho we are from MA, he has had to undergo extensive surgery. They have offered to settle but now our lawyer wants us to pay for a huge amount of costs including flying there to give a deposition. If any money was awarded what will the split be, do the medical companys come looking for a return and can we actually lose money?

Re: mediation
You will need to read the fee agreement that you signed with your attorney.
It is fairly customary for an attorney to collect his or her fee out of the full settlement, and for the litigant (you) to pay for his or her own trial expenses.
Whether airfare is a cost or expenses depends on your fee agreement or other understanding with the attorney.
